Liverpool are leaning towards making Ozan Kabak’s loan move from Schalke a permanent one this summer.

That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say the ‘inclination’ at Anfield is ‘probably towards a permanent contract’ at this moment in time.

Kabak has been on loan at Liverpool since the January transfer window when the Reds brought him in as emergency cover following an injury to Joel Matip.

After a rocky start, he’s established himself in the heart of their defence, so much so that the question of whether the club will activate the €20m clause to buy him is now a serious one.

Recent reports from Germany have indicated that Liverpool were leaning towards doing so, believing Kabak will be cheaper than other options while him not needing to adapt to Jürgen Klopp’s system is another advantage.

Fussball Transfers also reported that a deal was unlikely to be decided until the end of May, and they double down on that today.

They state that according to their information, the Reds ‘would have to activate’ the €20m clause by the end of May at the latest – in other words, there’s a deadline for them to meet.

It appears as if they may do so, though, with the ‘inclination’ at the club currently leaning towards making him a permanent member of the squad.
