When it was announced that Liverpool would be signing Arthur on loan from Juventus, a few eyebrows were raised.

After all, the Brazilian was barely used by Max Allegri, even if the Serie A side had stood in the way of a previous move to Arsenal.

For Liverpool, the loan was more out of desperation than anything after Jordan Henderson pulled up in the game against Newcastle, leaving their midfield very short of personnel.

A quick deal was organised with Juventus, which also allows the Reds to keep the midfielder permanently should he impress enough at Anfield.

However, the decision to let him leave hasn’t gone down well with some; a group that includes outspoken former football Antonio Cassano.

Speaking on BoboTV, as shown here by Libero Quotidiano, and relayed by Arena Calcio, he said: “A very serious thing: Arthur. For Allegri, he wasn’t a player, he wasn’t good, he didn’t take him into consideration. Now he’s gone to Liverpool, who are one of the strongest teams in the world with one of the best managers in football history.

“Is there a reason Liverpool and Klopp want Arthur and get him? What does it mean? That in this country of incapable and mediocre people, you have to start looking in the mirror and spit in your eyes.”

Prior to his move to Liverpool, Arthur had only made 63 appearances for Juventus, during which he scored one goal and picked up one assist.

He arrived from Barcelona in a deal involving Miralem Pjanic going the other way, having scored four goals and assisted another six in 74 appearances for the La Liga side.
