Helder Costa moved to Valencia on loan at the end of the last summer window.
There was no place for him at Leeds United, and it was hoped a season on loan in Spain could then lead to a permanent deal. Things started relatively well, with the 28-year-old getting the minutes he was hoping for.
The January window changed all of that, with Valencia taking Bryan Gil, also on loan, from Tottenham Hotspur. Gil took Costa’s minutes in the side, and the Leeds man’s fortunes quickly changed.
In recent weeks, Valencia manager José Bordalás has changed his system and doesn’t have a need for wingers. That’s seen Gil drop out of the starting line-up for the past three matches, and Costa finds himself even further down the pecking order.
El Desmarque report that whilst the Spanish side have a buying option, which the article puts at €20m, such a figure is ‘inaccessible’ for Los Ches. They would need Leeds to negotiate that figure down, and likely by quite a bit.
Even then, trying for another Gil loan feels like a likelier scenario.
Helder Costa has a contract running until June 2024 with Leeds United.
