The front page of Tuesday’s Sport covers the targets who are ‘in pole’ for Barcelona for the summer transfer window.
Eric Abidal’s has been tasked with remodelling the squad for next season and his side prioritises strengthening several positions.
The idea is to bring in Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt and Luka Jovic, who is on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt from Benfica.
Regarding the Netherlands international, it is clear that he’s the ‘chosen one’ for the La Liga winners as they look to further strengthen their centre-back position.
Having already agreed a deal with the Eredivisie side for Frenkie de Jong, the Blaugrana have made first contact with the Dutch club for the 19-year-old.
The teenager is willing to follow his friend and compatriot to the Camp Nou and is ready to fight with Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti for a place in the starting lineup.
However, they will have to convince the defender’s agent Mino Raiola for the transfer as De Ligt’s representative is known for creating unnecessary problems during negotiations.
Another area Barcelona want to strengthen is their attack as they look to bring a long-term successor for Luis Suarez.
In the club’s offices, Jovic is the player appreciated most right now and the Bundesliga outfit are planning to make his loan move permanent this week.
As of now, Barcelona have convinced the 21-year-old, but they will have to find an agreement for a transfer fee with Eintracht Frankfurt, which could be between €40m and €60m.
Should Barca fail to land Jovic, they will shift their focus to other targets.
Movement is being made to sign both players, and Barca aren’t wasting time.
