Manchester United wanting to sign Cerro Porteño’s Diego León has been discussed over the past few weeks.
On December 13th, journalist César Luis Merlo said Manchester United have agreed a deal with the Paraguayan side for the left-back’s transfer.
Last week, Cerro Porteño president Juan José Zapag stated the 17-year-old’s transfer will be made official soon.
The fullback’s brother, Hernán León, has been speaking to ABC Cardinal 730 AM to discuss the Red Devils’ interest. Through their official channel on X, formerly known as Twitter, they have shared Hernán’s comments.
According to the brother, their family are excited that Diego is about to be transferred to the Premier League side. He’s thrilled the fullback has been able to secure a dream move at an early stage of his career.
“It’s something impossible to explain in words. A boy who left with a dream at a very young age, and that at a young age he is achieving this is something very emotional,” he said.
Manchester United are set to agree a deal with Cerro Porteño for the youngster to arrive at Old Trafford next summer. The Paraguayan’s family were made aware of interest from a European club four months ago.
“Four months ago, he told us that there was interest in him in Europe and that there would be news in December. What his agent was telling him was that there would be news in December. He is leaving in June. He’s going to stay at Cerro to play the Apertura and when the Apertura is over, he’ll leave,” Hernán explained.
“His first dream is to build a house for my parents, that’s his first dream. Here in Juan E. O’Leary, on our land.”
Hernán hasn’t specifically mentioned Manchester United and seems to be responding to ABC’s question about their interest.
The English club’s desire to sign Diego was first reported by journalist Pedro Torres, and he explained to Sport Witness what Manchester United fans can expect from the player.
