Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo has made it clear he is willing to lower his wages to secure a departure from the Etihad this summer.

That’s according to Sport, who say that his entourage have been making it clear that their client is adaptable in terms of his pay packet.

The newspaper explains that Barcelona’s coaching staff remain determined to find a specialist full-back of the highest calibre for next season, with the recent defeat to Real Madrid highlighting a big issue in the squad.

They are focused on Cancelo as they believe there is a chance, he could be a ‘great market opportunity’ this summer.

Their belief is that he will be leaving Manchester City after his surprising departure to Bayern Munich at the end of the January transfer window after he ‘broke off’ relations with Pep Guardiola.

The German side took him on a loan with an option to buy for €70m but they don’t intend to activate that and he ‘will return to England’ at the end of the season.

That’s something that has been made clear to Barcelona, who have been given the information that he ‘will not continue in Germany’ but that it is also ‘impossible’ for him to continue at Manchester City.

His entourage is also sending out a message that Cancelo ‘would be willing’ to make an effort as long as Barcelona are willing to bet on him in the long term.

Sport say that means the player wants the club to show faith in him and guarantee that they will commit to acquiring him fully at some point, if not this summer, then definitely in future.
