Incoming Brighton and Hove Albion striker Deniz Undav has been backed to succeed in the Premier League when he makes the move this summer.

Undav is set to join Brighton at the end of this season after they moved to sign him from current club Union SG in the January transfer window.

Brighton’s interest in him came about courtesy of the German striker’s superb performances in the Jupiler Pro League this season.

He has 24 goals and ten assists in 30 games in the competition so far, an impressive record for a man who wasn’t even playing in the division last year.

Of course, there is a major difference between scoring goals in the Jupiler Pro League and the Premier League, something which has been evidenced down the years.

The fear for Brighton is that Undav may struggle with the step up, but DH journalist Alex Teklak is not having that, insisting that the 25-year-old has what it takes to be a success at the Amex.

“This is a very difficult question,” he said when asked if Undav will succeed with Graham Potter’s side.

“Players often find it difficult to adapt in the Premier League to the pace of the game, which is sometimes similar to that in the Champions League. Undav will have to get used to this rhythm in games and training.

“Otherwise, he has what it takes to get the hang of it. Physically, I’m not too worried about him. In shoulder-to-shoulder duels, it seems impossible to move him. He is an iron bar with an extraordinary duel resistance in the Belgian league.

“The most important thing will be to get playing time in England. After a big season, we must avoid at all costs a break that could affect his confidence.

“His adaptation should not last five or six months because you need continuity in a career.”
