On November 16th, Barcelona announced they’d reached an agreement with Ramón Planes to terminate his contract.
Three days before the technical secretary’s exit from the Camp Nou, his name was linked to Newcastle United. Marca even reported the Magpies have made contact with the Spaniard.
Last Wednesday, another report from the same newspaper explained Planes is ‘studying’ the possibility of moving abroad and the Tyneside club could be his ‘possible destination’.
A ‘confidential’ report from Sport now claims the 54-year-old left the La Liga side because he felt the cycle at Barca came to an end after Xavi Hernández’s arrival. He leaves the club after assembling one of the youngest squads in their recent history.
Planes has ‘important offers on the table’ and he doesn’t want to wait any longer, which is why he decided to terminate his contract with Barca.
Sport mention Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen, but explain the option to join AS Roma has ‘gained weight’ in recent days.
The Serie A side currently have Tiago Pinto as their sporting director, who arrived in Italy at the start of this year. Despite Pinto’s presence, the newspaper links Planes to Roma.
Sport stress the former Barca official will have a team ‘before the end of this year’.
The Magpies are in the picture and time should tell whether Planes will end up at Newcastle or another club.
