Victor Mollejo has become the first player born since the turn of the millennium to play for Atletico Madrid’s senior team, but he may never have had the chance at all.

Spanish newspaper AS cover Mollejo’s debut on Sunday, and point out he could have been playing at Anfield instead.

An ‘important offer’ has been made by Liverpool for the 16 year old, and whilst the Spanish newspaper don’t make it clear exactly when this offer was made, the reader is led to believe it was recently.

Mollejo is following in the footsteps of Fernando Torres by wearing the number 35 shirt to make his debut with Atletico’s first team.

He’s following in the footsteps of Torres at Atletico, and maybe there’s a chance to then do the same for Liverpool, if the Merseyside club keep an eye on Mollejo’s development.

Mollejo is considered one of the best prospects at Atletico Madrid, which is probably why Liverpool wanted to snatch him for their own academy.
