Chelsea’s deadline day signing Saul Niguez has shared his delight at joining up with Kepa Arrizabalaga at Stamford Bridge.
The Atlético Madrid midfielder completed a deadline day move to Chelsea last night after a summer of speculation about a move.
The Blues made their move after facing late frustration in their attempts to sign Jules Koundé from Sevilla.
Saul, meanwhile, elected to try his chance in a new country after a disappointing couple of years with Atlético, in which he has found himself playing a diminished role under Diego Simeone.
The move to Chelsea brings an end to a 13-year spell with Atlético, and it will be the first time he has played outside of Spain in his career.
He’s already admitted that is something of a gamble for him but says the presence of fellow Spaniard Kepa will be a help, particularly as he will be moving to London without his wife or children.
“It’s very important that he’s (Kepa) here. It’s an important step. If he wasn’t there, it would have been different,” he told IbaiLlanos on Twitch, relayed by AS.
“Going on loan for a year and having a team-mate with whom I’ve been playing with for many years in the lower categories of the national team is a guarantee.
“I don’t know if I could have endured a season like last year or two years ago. I know I could have been happy for a few days or a few weeks at home.
“But I needed to find myself again, and the possibility of Chelsea, a European champion, came up.
“It’s the most complicated thing, the decision to leave because I’m going on my own without my wife or my family and I hardly know English.”
