Marco Asensio’s decision to join Aston Villa on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the winter market has clearly paid off.
The attacking midfielder, who struggled for minutes at PSG, has featured regularly and also impressed for Aston Villa, managing eight goals and an assist from 19 games.
Aston Villa don’t have a purchase clause, but Unai Emery wants to retain him beyond this season.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, and their title says Asensio signing for Aston Villa is ‘almost done’.
Within the report, it’s explained the Villans manager is the main advocate for the 29-year-old’s permanent signing.
The Spain international’s contract at Parc des Princes is until 2026 and PSG don’t have him in their plans. They are looking to sell him in the summer window as long as their demands are met.
Asensio, for his part, wants to continue at Villa Park, and Aston Villa director Monchi has been working to satisfy Emery’s request. The Premier League club’s intention would be to pay €15m to PSG and give him a three-year contract.
Estadio state all parties are working towards a transfer and Asensio should join Emery’s side permanently barring last minute surprises.
They end their report by stating: ‘Marco Asensio’s future points in only one direction, and that is Aston Villa. An imminent signing.’
