Norwich City midfielder Lungi Sørensen has told the Danish media it was his decision to leave the Championship club at the end of this season.

The 27-year-old will be out of contract with the Canaries in the summer and could return to the Danish Superliga.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Sørensen was asked about his future and the reasons he’ll be leaving Norwich City this summer. The Dane explained he wanted to try something different in his career and subsequently wants to move on.

“It was a desire I had to try something new and see something different. I’ve been here for five years, so I need to experience something different and meet some other people,” said the midfielder.

Sørensen was also quizzed about by the Danish media outlet about the sacking of Johannes Hoff Thorup and Glen Riddersholm last week, to which he said he was surprised they were offloaded by the club.

“I was shocked and hadn’t seen it coming. I thought they would have a longer leash to shape the team, but that’s football. If the results are not there, it will be very short-term, and then something new will have to happen,” said the Norwich player.

The former Denmark U21 international spent five seasons at Carrow Road after arriving from Esbjerg fB. During his time with the English side he’s made over 1000 appearances, scoring four goals.

He also made ten Premier League appearances during Norwich City’s stint in the top flight in the 2021/22 season.
