Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez says he would not say no to the chance of returning to Argentine with Independiente in the near future.
Martínez joined the Gunners from Independiente’s U20 team back in July 2010 aged just 17-years-old and has spent the last ten years at the Emirates.
His time in London has been something of a difficult one, with him spending most of his time out on loan with clubs in the Championship and Getafe in Spain.
This year he has found himself in the first team pictures with Arsenal, though, making 11 appearances in all competitions so far, albeit none in the Premier League.
His contract at the club expires in 2022, but it seems he already has a plan for the future, and that is returning to his old club alongside Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero.
The City forward has been heavily linked with a move back to the Argentine side when his deal at the Etihad expires, and Martínez admits he’s thinking along the same lines.
“Well, when Kun Agüero returns, I think about it too,” he told TNT Sports.
“It’s the club he loves; I’ll tell you that… The truth is that you can never rule that out. I’m open to everything, especially with this British stuff.
“I played in Argentina until I was 17 or 18. I’m never going to say no to the chance of coming back, maybe in two or three years I’ll be looking forward to it.”
