Ruben Neves has scored three goals for Wolves so far this season, yet he hasn’t scored any for Portugal… ever.
Given he found the back of the net in a brilliant display against Aston Villa at the weekend, some in the Portuguese media hope he can transfer that to the national team during the international break.
Therefore, he’s been asked about it at a Portugal press conference on Wednesday, but insists it’s not something he’s letting himself become too bothered about.
Record quote the midfielder as saying: “I am not focused on goals but on the national team. I hope I can help my team and the national team in every game, that’s why I train every day. It doesn’t matter who scores, what matters is winning and giving joy to all Portuguese.”
Neves’ form since he joined Wolves from Porto has seen him attract interest from other clubs, although a transfer doesn’t feel close and he certainly hasn’t been pushing for one.
Speaking to TMW today at the WyScout conference in Amsterdam, the Premier League club’s chief scout John Marshall ruled out a sale: “Without a doubt, he is a real top player. We are aware of the fact that so many top clubs follow him around Europe but we are focusing on him. He is not for sale.”
