The past few days has seen the reemergence of Spanish media claims regarding Giovani Lo Celso.

During the summer window, the Tottenham player was repeatedly linked with a return to La Liga. Real Betis, where he played some of the best football of his career before moving to Spurs, were interested in taking him back but couldn’t find a deal which suited everyone.

La Liga’s financial fair play rules are tough and Betis are one of the clubs who’ve struggled the most to stay on the right side of them.

Barcelona were also credited with an interest, although that didn’t seem quite as strong and they’re also continually fighting the economic restrictions in Spanish football.

The most recent reports have insisted Lo Celso is keen on the move, and that Betis have been starting their attempts ahead of the January window.

Ahead of their match against Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday, the club’s president Ángel Haro has been speaking to the local media.

He was specifically asked about the Tottenham player, and chose to be non-committal.

Estadio Deportivo quote Haro as saying: “I’m not aware that there have been additional movements to what there were at the time (during the summer), I think they are more rumours than founded news.”

This rumour isn’t going away and will surely only build if Lo Celso continues to struggle for minutes.
