Bart Verbruggen has cemented his place at Brighton & Hove Albion this season, more than a year after arriving at The Amex from Anderlecht.
The goalkeeper has kept four clean sheets and conceded 25 goals from 17 games this season. His performances for Brighton haven’t gone unnoticed and recent claims have talked about Manchester United’s interest.
Soccer News points it out and then state a move away from Brighton is not yet an option for the 22-year-old.
They have also relayed comments made by the stopper during an interview with Voetbal international. The Netherlands international’s deal with the Seagulls lasts until 2028 and made it clear that he’s happy with his life in England.
“We are building something very beautiful at Brighton and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. My ambitions are unchanged. I dream big, otherwise you won’t get far. But for now, I’m in a fantastic position here,” he said.
The Dutchman also talked about his experience of playing in the Premier League.
“I think the best part is that you have a difficult match every week. You are challenged every four or five days. It is a ruthless competition, mistakes are punished,” Verbruggen explained.
“Beautiful stadiums. Great fans. How life is in England, very beautiful. What I had hoped for has been exceeded.”
Voetbal Primeur have relayed additional comments made by the Brighton stopper.
The former Anderlecht man has developed rapidly in the last year or so and is well aware this has been a topic of discussion. The goalkeeper claims he’s always been prepared but insists he’s still not at the level he wants to reach.
“People often say that to me. In some ways it is true, if you look where I was two years ago. But on the other hand, I have always had the feeling that I was ready for what came next. I never thought: What’s happening to me? Do I suddenly have to play in the Dutch team or in the Premier League. If I was ready the next challenge came,” he added.
“I’m living my dream, but I have always believed and thought that I was going to make it come true. It is very special what I am experiencing.
“Almost every boy in the Netherlands wants nothing more than to become a professional football player. The fact that you can become one and at this level, that is great. But I’m not yet where I want to be, so I am not completely satisfied yet.”
