Lionel Messi has never been a man of many interviews. The Barcelona star is the type of player who lets his football speak for him.

That’s why when talking to Argentine outlet TyC this Wednesday, all the local media is covering the story. Websites are even doing a live text with everything the 31-year-old says, and a line about Liverpool is proving popular.

Lionel Messi was pretty relaxed in the conversation, and had some funny stories about his children’s passion for football. He’s revealed that even though one of them supports him, the other prefers to cheer for his opponents.

“Tiago does’t miss a game,” Messi told TyC (via BeSoccer). “Mateo loves football, he wears all the shirts.”

“The other day we were at home playing and he said: ‘I’m Liverpool, who beat you’. The same with Valencia. Or the same when football is on TV and he sees the goals of Madrid and shouts to annoy his brother.

“Mateo looks at me and challenges me. I tell Thiago things once and he does it without complaining. In the (national team) concentrations I find it hard to be far from them.”

Still speaking of Liverpool, Messi has recalled defeat to the Reds in the Champions League, claiming that’s why the season didn’t finish very good for him: “In the physical sense I was able to finish well, but I was frustrated by how the last few days were played, especially the elimination from the Champions League.”

TyC showed Messi a picture of him and Sergio Aguero from the time they won the Olympics playing together. He talked about the title and thanked Aguero’s current manager, Pep Guardiola, for letting him play that tournament.

“This was another of the great things football gave me. Nobody from Barça wanted me to go to the Games and Guardiola let me. He grabbed me, asked me if I wanted to go and we agreed that a person would go to take care of me. Well, before, because they would not let me go, I would sulk all the time. When I’m angry or something happens to me, I don’t dissimulate.

“It was a great medal for the country and very important, even though they were guys from the U23. I enjoyed it a lot and celebrated it in the way it deserved. We spent a few days in the Olympic Village and saw Nadal, Federer, Kobe Bryant and I asked to take pictures with them… it was great. I remember that we were the companions to eat at McDonalds (laughs).”
