Djurgårdens IF’s Lucas Bergvall has told Svenskafans’ Forum 1891 that he’s “excited and nervous” ahead of his move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 18-year-old’s rapid rise at the Swedish club caught the attention of several European clubs, before Spurs won the battle in February.

Tottenham have agreed a deal with Djurgårdens IF for Bergvall to arrive at the north London club in the summer.

According to the website, the midfielder has two games left before moving to the Premier League side. The clash against Hammarby on June 2nd will be his last tie.

“At times it can be difficult to accept that fact. I don’t know if I’ve realised it yet. I’ve just tried to focus on Djurgården. But now it’s so close, it’s hard not to think about it. I’m incredibly excited and a little nervous, as it should be,” he said.

A move to Tottenham will see the Sweden international fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League, but he’s also sad to leave his friends and family behind.

“It feels sad to leave them here at home. But at the same time, my dream since I was a kid has been to play in the Premier League, it goes both ways,” Bergvall explained.

The incoming Tottenham player has been in the spotlight, at least in the Swedish media, for the past few years. He’s talked about the need to find a way to block himself away, to avoid any sort of external pressure, which will only increase once he moves to England.

“Of course, sometimes it can be a bit much. Wherever you are, you hear things – at school, at home, among players or in town,” he added.

“Almost all the time you hear something and many people ask and wonder. You have to disconnect from that to be able to focus on yourself. So, it’s a lot, but at the same time it’s something I have to get used to now that I’m going to be a footballer.

“I feel like I have good people around me and I’ve realised for myself that thinking I’m better than everyone else isn’t going to make me a better footballer.”
