Portuguese side Sporting have announced the signing of Tiago Augusto, who it’s explained was with Fulham but hadn’t signed a professional contract. On their official website, the Lions stated that the midfielder is initially joining the club’s youth ranks.

“I’m very happy, I worked hard for this. I want to thank everyone who helped me during this process,” said the 17-year-old.

“This is just another battle won, we still need to reach more objectives. I want to thank Sporting CP for the trust they placed in me.”

Tiago Augusto started his career at Palmense, having then moved to Benfica, and joined Fulham in 2016. He played for the U15, U16 and U18 ranks at the Craven Cottage side, and leaves the club before making his debut for the first team.

This is a summer in which many Premier League youngsters have been linked to Portuguese clubs, with a few of them having their moves confirmed.

Porto have also just announced the arrival of Danny Loader, who left Reading after the end of his contract and had been linked to a few English sides as well.

With Premier League and Championship clubs making so many big signings in the past few years, perhaps the youngsters are feeling like they’ll have bigger chances to play for Portuguese sides.
