Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu has hinted he could extend his contract with the club as they are proving to be ‘ideal’ for him.
The 30-year-old joined Southampton in a £7m deal from Chelsea in 2015 and has been a regular since that point, racking up 245 appearances for the club to date.
He remains a key player under Ralph Hassenhuttl, with 33 appearances in all competitions to his name this season, a figure that is likely to increase before the end of the campaign.
His current contract expires next summer, meaning Southampton will have to make a decision on his future this year.
They will have to either get the midfielder to sign a new contract this summer or risk losing him on a free next year, something we’re sure they’ll want to avoid.
Romeu is only thinking of staying where he is, though, insisting that he is very happy with Southampton at this moment in time.
“I’m very happy,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“I’ve adapted very well, I feel at home, and I enjoy football. Physically, I’m okay. I endure the games at a very high intensity.
“For the years I’ve been here, for how I’ve been treated. I feel happy, loved, valued and more respected where I have performed at my best level.
“Right now, I want to continue. I’m motivated to bring my experience to the youngsters.”
