On Monday, Genclerbirligi confirmed the arrival of Rangers winger Daniel Candeias after he was linked with the Super Lig side over the past week.
We covered initial reports six day ago that Candeias was close to leaving Rangers. The Portuguese winger then joined the Turkish club on a two year deal after just one season under Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard.
Speaking at his unveiling ceremony, via Hurriyet, the 31 year old said he is happy to return to Turkey, after playing in the Super Lig with Alanyaspor during the 2016/17 season: “I’m happy that I’ve been given a second chance in Turkey. I want to thank our president Murat Cavcav for his comments about me. When I heard about Genclerbirligi’s interest, I was very happy. I hope we can achieve good results this season.”
The former Benfica player impressed during his sole season in Turkey and he’ll be looking to replicate this form with newly promoted side Genclerbirligi.
One of the oldest clubs in Turkey, they have now returned to top flight at the first time of asking following their relegation and they are looking to build a squad to stay in the league.
Candeias played 97 games for Rangers in all competitions across the two seasons, scoring 14 goals and providing 23 assists.
He had 12 months left on his contract with the Scottish Premiership side.
