In the summer of 2023, Manchester United were linked with a move for goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
That is when Chelsea were also looking to sign a goalkeeper and they ended up signing both Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic. The Red Devils signed Andre Onana, who has excelled for them this season.
Suzuki joined Belgian club Sint-Tuiden on a loan deal and this summer he ended up joining Italian side Parma on a permanent transfer.
He’s doing well in the Serie A this season, playing 13 times and becoming an undisputed regular for his new club.
The 24-year-old spoke to La Repubblica yesterday about his time in Italy so far and was also asked specifically about previous interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
The goalkeeper said: “Is it true that I turned down offers from Chelsea and Manchester United? When I was in Japan, the Premier League wanted me, but in Belgium I would have played more.”
Suzuki further stated that he is quite satisfied with the decision he made.
“I’m happy with my choice. Serie A is known around the world for the quality of its goalkeepers.”
Considering how well the United States-born player has settled in at Parma, it is understandable why he would have no regrets about how his career has gone so far.
Being back-up at a Premier League club may not have helped his development.
