Following the sacking of Graham Potter, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim labelled as one of the candidates to take charge of Chelsea.
With a solid work with the Lions, the Portuguese coach had already been linked to Tottenham Hotspur, and now the English press said he could make his way to Stamford Bridge.
Those rumours came up on the same day that Sporting president Frederico Varandas was interviewed by Sporting TV, so he had a word about that possibility(via O Jogo).
The club chief made it clear that Amorim shouldn’t go anywhere, despite being happy that his coach is getting linked to European giants.
“Yes, I count on Amorim, he has a contract signed until 2026. Even before coming here I saw that he is on the list of another European shark,” said Frederico Varandas.
“I’m very happy. Amorim for me, I already said, is one of the best in the world, he made Sporting grow a lot in the quality of the game. I have to appreciate what I have and not fear that I will lose this or that.”
Meanwhile, newspaper A Bola today features a chance on the rumours linking Ruben Amorim to Chelsea.
But responding to stories from the English media, they claim to have found out that there has been no contact from the Blues for Amorim so far.
It’s also said that the coach is completely focused on Sporting’s objectives this season, making it unlikely that he’d leave the Portuguese club before the summer.
