Arsenal loaned out Fabio Vieira to FC Porto in the summer transfer window.
After a slow start to life back at his former club, partly down to fitness, the versatile midfielder has now played 1456 minutes in all competitions for Porto, also scoring twice and assisting three times for the side.
In the Portuguese club’s most recent game, the Arsenal loanee played in defensive midfield against Farense.
As Porto prepare to take on AS Roma in the second leg of the Europa League play-off round, Vieira spoke to Sport TV about his time in Portugal this season.
He stated that he is giving his all this season and is trying to adapt to manager Martin Anselmi’s ideas.
Vieira said, as relayed by O Jogo: “Everyone wants to help FC Porto and I’m one of them. I’m giving my all and it’s up to the coach to decide (whether to start him) tomorrow.”
Speaking further, the 24-year-old said: “I’m feeling good, we’re assimilating his ideas. It takes time to adjust certain details, but we’re improving day by day. I’m always looking to improve. We’ve been through some moments at the club that have affected the players and we’re getting over it and we promise that tomorrow we’ll be at our best.”
Vieira will be keen to be an important part of the Porto side, starting and finishing games rather than getting chunks of matches.
Arsenal would also be keeping a close eye on the player, considering how he has played in attacking midfield, right-wing and in deeper midfield.
That versatility may help the player and increase his chances of a future with Arsenal.
