Valentino Lazaro’s move to Newcastle United was a mini saga of the winter market. The player’s agent appeared to be travelling around Europe trying to find a better deal than what the Magpies were offering.
When that situation became clear he returned to Newcastle and negotiated a deal until the end of the season, when he’s contractually set to return to parent club Inter Milan.
Since the move, Lazaro has hinted multiple times about his desire to return to Milan and prove himself at Inter, although recently, perhaps after Newcastle had a word, his comments have been a little more guarded.
Currently at home like the majority of Premier League footballers, Lazaro has told FCInterNews about his routine: “I am at home. I wake up and have breakfast, I train, I read something. I study Italian and play the playstation against my friends.”
Continuing to learn Italian is one hint on his future, and when asked if he wants another chance at Inter, Lazaro said: “Inter is amazing: a fantastic and special club. Wearing the Nerazzurri shirt is a source of pride. But it wouldn’t be fair to talk about it now. I am focused on Newcastle and will give everything here. Then next summer we’ll see what will happen.”
Quizzed on why he chose Newcastle when other options were available, he said: “It is no secret that I had the opportunity to go to a top club in Germany and play the Champions League in a team where many of my friends play. But I wanted to try a new experience, something I hadn’t experienced yet. So I chose to test myself in the Premier League.”
Lazaro explained he remains in contact with Antonio Conte and several players at Inter Milan, seeing Romelu Lukaku as like a big brother.
