The official announcement of Estêvão Willian’s transfer from Palmeiras to Chelsea has seen the player get a lot of attention, as there are high hopes around the 17-year-old.

Earlier this week, pundits on the Brazilian TV claimed the youngster will be a ‘football legend‘ given the potential he’s shown in his first games as a professional.

Now as Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos spoke to Fora do Jogo podcast, he talked about Estêvão’s arrival at the club, and is clearly excited about that. The quotes are brought by Premier League Brasil.

“I’m a fan of Estêvão. I’ve always spoken about him to my father, I knew he’d go on to become a professional quickly because of his quality and I can see that he’s a focused kid, he’s got personality, he’s the face of Brazilian football, he really goes for it,” said Andrey Santos.

“Chelsea are doing a good search here for young South Americans, so soon they’ll all be there speaking Spanish (laughs). The youth project, for the present and the future, youngsters with experience.”

Andrey Santos himself seems to have an undefined future at Chelsea. The midfielder was signed by the Blues back in January 2023, in a €12.5m deal from Vasco da Gama, and is still to make his official debut for the Blues.

The Stamford Bridge side first loaned him back to Vasco, then to Nottingham Forest and then to Strasbourg. He didn’t get much playing time at any of the European sides, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s sent out to get some experience again.

As for Estêvão, he’s only joining Chelsea next year, once he turns 18. The total package for his signing is reportedly worth €61m.
