Levante star Carlos Álvarez has admitted he’s been left thrilled with his former teammate Andrés García joining Aston Villa in January.

AS have an interview with the 21-year-old today as he continues to shine in LaLiga 2 and earn himself admirers.

Álvarez has been one of the shining lights for Levante in the Spanish second flight this season, with four goals and six assists in 26 games in the league so far.

The winger appears to have a bright future ahead of him and it could be a busy summer too, particularly if Levante, who are seventh in the table and five points behind leaders Mirandés, aren’t promoted to La Liga.

Part of his success this season was due to the relationship he had been with Andrés García down the right-hand side.

The defender has now departed, with Aston Villa moving quickly to secure his signature in the January transfer window with a €7m move.

He’s paved the way for moves and it seems Álvarez has been inspired, even if he’s not eyeing up a move to Aston Villa himself.

“I’m very happy for him. He’s worked hard and he deserves it,” he said about his former teammate.

“The truth is that those opportunities can’t be wasted and it’s clear that the club also needed it. I am a dreamer, and I think big. Your example inspires me to work hard and be able to be closer to that type of situation.

“The reality is that I don’t think beyond this weekend. It would be a bit hypocritical to think about that and then say that it pisses me off to lose the three points.

“I prefer to focus on the games because then everything comes. We are going to take advantage of the opportunity we have, which I think is very nice.”
