Having arrived at Elland Road from Rennes in 2020, Raphinha impressed in his debut season for Leeds United, scoring eights goals and managing 11 assists in all competitions.

The winger has three goals from seven league games to his name this season. His fine form for the Whites helped him bag his first senior appearance for Brazil this month.

The 24-year-old came off the bench, registering two assists, to help Seleção seal a 3-1 victory over Venezuela. He continued his good form against Uruguay, scoring a brace as Brazil sealed a 4-1 win early on Friday.

After the tie, the attacker explained his performances for Marcelo Bielsa’s side have helped him earn a place in the national team.

“It’s going to be hard to surpass tonight, it’s going to be hard to forget about tonight, it never had to end. I’ll go back there focused on what got me here, the good work at Leeds. I’m going to do my job well to come back over again,” Raphinha said, as quoted by Globo Esporte.

“I think there is no way to explain the happiness I am feeling, it couldn’t be more striking for me this match, with the goals and the victory.

“I am fulfilling the dream of a child, not only to wear the shirt of the national team, but also represent the national team. Being able to help with goals is very rewarding.”

The Leeds United star plays alongside a few big stars with Brazil and among them is Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar. Raphinha has said with the former Barcelona star is an inspiration for him.

“Playing with Neymar is very easy. I’m a big fan. I’m very inspired by him, in his way of playing, in his way of attacking his opponent. I see a lot of videos of him. Playing with him is a dream come true,” he explained.
