Ready to be the starting left-back for the France national team during the 2018 World Cup, Benjamin Mendy’s injury has come at the wrong time for everyone involved.

Finally finding his feet at Manchester City, the young defender is now out for most of the season, even if there is a bit of hope he could be back for the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, for him, the aim is to come back before then, and he knows he can do it. He believes in himself.

In an interview with L’Equipe on Friday, Mendy revealed he’s ready to do anything to get back on the pitch, and won’t take his rehabilitation lightly.

He said: “Everything is possible. Only my body knows. Every day, I want to do better. If someone tells me there are three exercises to do today and I do them, then I ask they show me the next three.”

Already knowing everything there is to know about his injury, and looking at other players who have come back from similar setbacks, the Manchester City defender isn’t for a second doubting himself and is ’100% ready’ to be at the World Cup this summer.

He continued: “I have faith in myself, and my work. I’m going to work harder than ever before. I know I’ll come back strong. People will say ‘Benjamin is back’, not ‘Benjamin, you can see he was injured’.”

And where does he get this belief.

He explained: “I’m a Muslim. A believer. This injury happened, it had to happen, at the right time. I’m determined.”
