Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has revealed his desire to join Boca Juniors this summer, if the Gunners will sanction the transfer.
Torreira is currently out on loan at Atlético Madrid in Spain but has endured a difficult campaign, struggling to establish himself as a regular under Diego Simeone.
He will be returning to Arsenal in the summer, with the Spanish club having made it clear they don’t want to turn his loan deal into a permanent one in the summer.
Whether he will be staying at the Emirates remains to be seen, though, with the Uruguayan very much out of Mikel Arteta’s plans at this moment in time.
He’s already been heavily linked with a move to Argentina and specifically Boca Juniors, with it reported on several occasions that it is Torreira’s dream to play for the club.
Torreira has now confirmed as much, revealing his plans for the summer in an interview with journalist Federico Bulos.
“I’ve always thought about it, I’ve always longed for it. My idea is very clear, the decision I want to make,” AS report him saying.
“I want to be close to my family, especially to accompany my dad, who is suffering the most because of my mum’s death.
“It’s been two seasons here in Europe and I’m not having a very good time. I always try to keep a smile on my face, they think everything is fine but it’s not like that.
“I hope the opportunity will come but I know it’s not easy. I’m an Arsenal player and the clubs will have to agree on a one-year loan. A buyout would be difficult for Boca.
“I would like to do it now, at the age of 25. If not, it will be at a later date.”
