It’s amazing how quickly things can change in football, whether it be someone’s form or the influence a couple of injuries have on an out of favour player.
At Milan, where Chelsea’s Tiemoué Bakayoko is currently on loan, it’s been a bit of both for the France international, who started the season horrendously only to become one of the more important players, at least defensively, over the past few games for Gennaro Gattuso.
Just a month or so ago, it seems inconceivable that the Serie A side would be willing to consider playing the €35m in the deal to make the move permanent, yet now, it might not be the craziest idea.
Before anyone gets too excited, that hasn’t been claimed yet, but with Giacomo Bonaventura out for the foreseeable future, Milan need all the squad depth they can get, and a first step has been taken: Bakayoko is going nowhere in January, so say Gazzetta dello Sport.
When his form was at its lowest, there were many claims that Chelsea could see the midfielder return midway through the season, and that Ligue 1 clubs, such as Marseille, would be willing to help relaunch the 24-year-old’s career.
Now, however, Bakayoko is ‘off the career’ and any idea of an early exit has been ‘cancelled’.
