Despite trying to convince him to stay at Manchester United beyond his contract until June 2022, the Red Devils eventually had to let Paul Pogba leave on a free.

He then moved back to Juventus, where things haven’t really gone to plan to date.

There has been this whole mess with Mathias Pogba, his brother, which we won’t go into, but as more events unfold, even on the pitch, Manchester United might be glad they no longer have to deal with the France international.

That’s because he’s now injured himself again in training, and could be set to both miss the World Cup not play for Juventus until January.

Surgery is now going to take place on his knee, and there are some, like Sandro Sabatini, journalist for Sportmediaset, relayed by Calciomercato.it, who feel the player should compensate Juventus for what has happened.

In fact, some of the blame could also be placed on those who did the medical in the first place.

He said: “If there had been two like Moggi and Giraudo in the management, it would have been decidedly more authoritarian. Today, a different approach was chosen, with two opposing medical opinions, that of operating immediately and that of conservative therapy. In the end, the decision on his body is up to the player. If I were Juventus, I would ask Pogba’s medical advisor for damages: the salary of the 40 days you made us lose, pay it yourself.

“In my opinion, the fact he got injured after a couple of workouts makes you think. It is possible that such a big problem happened because of so little? Isn’t it that he had problems with his meniscus already before, that during the visits, maybe you could guess since he had been coming from two difficult years?”

This could have been Manchester United dealing with this had they managed to extend the player and convince him to stay under Erik ten Hag.

Instead, they let him go, and the Red Devils, despite a bad start, are now on an impressive run of four wins on the trot, including victories over rivals Liverpool and Arsenal.
