Despite being told many times by the Italian media that Divock Origi is very close to signing for Milan, no agreement appears to have been found.

The Liverpool player is out of contract in the summer, and with no renewal in sight, mostly because he wants to leave, a free transfer is expected to take place this summer, with Italy a likely destination for the Belgian.

Meetings have reportedly taken place between the forward’s representatives and the Serie A club, and while talks are heading in the right direction, Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia warns against jumping the gun when it comes to this story.

He told Pianeta Milan: “On Origi, I wouldn’t say it’s done, not yet. I wouldn’t overlook the negotiation, despite all the difficulties of the case, with Sassuolo for Berardi and Scamacca. Origi is free, it’s feasible, less expensive and flexible, but it’s also true that Milan is teased by this idea of doing an operation with Sassuolo, if not for both of them.”

This is certainly news, because previous reports suggested Milan were going all out for the Liverpool player, mostly because of his experience and the fact he was free.

However, with them being top of Serie A, winning the league would give them a nice windfall, especially from Champions League money, which could open more doors on the transfer market than first imagined.

This is perhaps why they are being cautious about sealing the deal right now for the Liverpool forward, just in case they can go for other targets instead.
