Sandro Tonali left AC Milan and the Serie A back in the summer of 2023 but it doesn’t seem as if the Italian press has moved on from the Newcastle United star.

His return to action after a long-term ban has sparked more conversations about Tonali, who has impressed for the Magpies and for the Azzurri in recent weeks.

He is expected to play a big role for Newcastle this season but a big claim about his exit from St James’ Park has now emerged in Italy.

Journalist Carlo Pellegatti spoke about the Magpies’ star on his Youtube channel and SpazioMilan relayed some of his comments.

He said: “I would bet that sooner or later he will return to Milan, but I don’t know when.”

Pellegatti, SpazioMilan note, also stated that Tonali will return to Milan directly from Newcastle instead of first going elsewhere. When or how that happens isn’t suggested.

The vast majority of Italian players who play abroad do return to their home country and Tonali has been a Milan fan since he was a child.

The Rossoneri might have to shell out a big fee to bring him back, but football has seen stranger things happen in the past.
