Portuguese midfielder João Carlos Teixeira has used a live chat to speak to local journalists on Monday morning.

The 27-year-old has given his opinion on several issues regarding the Coronavirus crisis, as the Liga NOS continues to be paused with no date to return.

Teixeira has also talked about his former club Liverpool, claiming the Reds deserve to win the Premier League title, and saying he’s still friends with players from the club.

“I was looking positively at Liverpool’s season, it’s a club I played at for four and a half years and they treated me very well. I wish Liverpool were champions,” said João Carlos Teixeira (via Mais Futebol).

“I played there, I still keep in touch with some people, with Firmino, for example. I hope the Premier League will end and I believe that Liverpool will become champions after thirty years. They’re a club who deserve it.”

Since leaving Liverpool in 2016, João Carlos Teixeira has been having a hard time to impress in Portugal. He first signed for Porto, where he didn’t do very well, and the same happened at Braga, where he spent a season-long loan. Now he’s having his second year at Vitória Guimarães.

And the season stopped right when Teixeira was in good form. He scored two goals and made an assist against Famalicão in February, and then scored two more in the last game of the league against Paços Ferreira in March.

Asked about a possible pay cut in the next few months, Teixeira said: “Regarding monetary issues, for now, we still don’t know anything. I believe that we will try to help the club and the institution. If it has to happen, we won’t be the problem.

“We need harmony and help between people so that things don’t get worse than they’re being. It would be important for the clubs and for everyone that the championship was concluded, even if it has to be behind closed doors.”
