Andreas Christensen can leave Chelsea as a free agent next summer if the Blues fail to extend his contract, which is set to run down in 2022.

Last month, the defender insisted he is happy at the west London club, but refused to confirm whether or not he will sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

After the last international break, Thomas Tuchel left the Denmark international on the bench for November’s fixtures. In his country, the 25-year-old’s recent omission was viewed as a ‘form of punishment’ for not renewing his contract.

The former PSG manager suggested as much earlier this week. Like the Dane, Antonio Rüdiger, Thiago Silva and César Azpilicueta have less than seven months left on their current deals. However, only Christensen is facing the heat.

Denmark’s BT state it is because the player had twice agreed with Chelsea over an extension, before backing out.

Sten Christensen, Andreas’ father and agent, was approached by Denmark’s BT after Tuchel’s latest remarks regarding his son. The representative said: “I will not comment on that at this time.”

Meanwhile, Tuchel included Andreas in Chelsea’s starting lineup as the defender played the full 90 minutes in his side’s 2-1 win over Watford on Wednesday.
