“I was open to it” – Player quizzed on Wolves offer being rejected, clearly tempted

Sven Botman won the title with Lille in his debut campaign with the Ligue 1 side last season.

His impressive performances in the heart of the French side’s defence caught the attention of several clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Towards the end of the summer window, Voetbal International reported Wolves wanted to sign the defender, but their offer was rejected by Lille.

The 21-year-old is tied to the French champions until 2025 and Lille were aware they were in a ‘good negotiating position’ to retain their player.

Apart from Bruno Lage’s side, the Netherlands U21 international was also on the agenda of Atalanta, while Sevilla had plans to acquire Botman’s services, if Jules Koundé had sealed a move to Chelsea.

Eindhovens Dagblad have an interview with the Dutchman, and he was quizzed whether he was disappointed with Lille’s decision to reject Wolves’ offer.

“No, not that [disappointed], because I’m too good at Lille for that. I play in the top of France. The Champions League is about to start. That’s good for me too,” Botman said.

“I’m really looking forward to that [Champions League group stages], because this is a stage on which I want to show myself.”

“Only sometimes opportunities come along that you might want to go for. I’m in no rush, but I was open to it.”

Botman has made four league appearances for Lille this season.
