Basaksehir forward Nacer Chadli has revealed he left Tottenham in 2016 after it was made clear manager Mauricio Pochettino no longer wanted him.
Chadli joined Tottenham in a £7.34m deal from Twente in 2013 as part of the summer splurge to try and replace Gareth Bale.
He would go on to make 119 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 25 goals and registering 16 assists in total.
He had found playing time increasingly difficult to come by under Pochettino, though, managing just 933 minutes of action in the Premier League in his final season at the club.
He left Tottenham for West Bromwich Albion in 2016 but has lived a varied career since that point, turning out for Monaco, Anderlecht and now Basaksehir.
Indeed, there is an argument to be made that his career has been something of a downward spiral since leaving the club, something put to him during an interview with Het Laatste Niuews today.
“And yet I don’t regret anything,” he told them.
“I left Tottenham because I wanted to play more – that didn’t work out there at the end. The coach (Mauricio Pochettino) no longer counted on me.
“That first year at West Brom was super, but in my second season I was almost constantly injured, and we got relegated (sigh) Those injuries didn’t help me.”
