Over the past few weeks, we covered claims from France about Sunderland’s desire to sign SM Caen’s Alexandre Mendy.
The forward has less than two years left on his deal and wants to join the Championship side in this window. Last week, Ouest-France reported the Black Cats are waiting for the 30-year-old.
Earlier this week, Mendy’s agent insisted that his client is determined to join Sunderland.
On July 19th, Mendy openly talked about his wish to make a switch to the Stadium of Light. The Guinea-Bissau international has given another interview to Foot Mercato, where he has reiterated his desire to join Sunderland.
Kylian Mbappé’s investment fund, Coalition Capital, recently bought a majority stake at the Ligue 2 side.
Mendy has held talks with the Real Madrid star and the club’s new leaders, to get a move to Sunderland.
“It’s clear to me and to everyone that I want to go to Sunderland, the new management must respect the commitments made by the institution to me. If I train today, it is to be ready to start this new challenge with Sunderland,” he said.
“I repeat it, but I said goodbye to D’Ornano, my teammates. Kylian is the boss and so he calls me. The new management must understand that it is the man who is affected, and this is the worst thing.
“I respected the club, the fans and today, after four years at the club, I want to leave having given the best of myself. I leave on the best note. Caen and the fans will always be in my heart, but my head is at Sunderland.”
The attacker made it clear that he has his heart and head set on Sunderland. Foot Mercato claim Régis Le Bris’ side will fight ‘until the last minute’ to acquire his services. The two parties are waiting for Caen to give them the green light.
