Aston Villa are keen on signing Celta Vigo’s Óscar Mingueza in the winter market.
On Thursday, El Desmarque stated the La Liga side fear losing the right-back to Aston Villa, especially at the end of the window.
Later that day, La Voz de Galicia reported the 25-year-old has informed Celta Vigo he is happy at the club. Despite this, there’s panic at Celta Vigo over losing him to Aston Villa in January.
His contract lasts until 2026, and includes a €20m release clause which the Villans need to activate. That’s according to Celta Vigo manager Claudio Giráldez, and AS have relayed his comments.
AS state the Premier League side are interested in bringing the player to Villa Park. The Spanish club face Rayo Vallecano in the league later today and Giráldez talked about the Aston Villa target in his pre-match press conference yesterday.
The manager remains hopeful of retaining the player and explains how Unai Emery’s side can snatch him from Celta Vigo.
“I want the market to end. I understand that players who are doing things well and are attracting attention have a better chance of being picked up and we are in a free market,” he said.
“There is money for termination clauses and if someone wants him, it is the way to proceed. From there, I have no knowledge of anything else, I’m happy with Mingueza and all the players on the squad and I hope there is as little movement of players as possible.”
There is concern over the English club activating Mingueza’s release clause and therefore, Celta Vigo have already started looking for his replacement.
Mundo Deportivo say they have identified Deportivo Alavés’ Carlos Vicente as Mingueza’s potential successor.
