As Arsenal continue to be pointed out as one of the potential destinations for Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kökcü, we get to see interesting words from the player today.
The 21-year-old was interviewed by the Dutch ESPN, and when quizzed if he’d like to become some kind of legend at the Eredivisie side, he came up with a different response, claiming his departure could happen as soon as next summer.
“I know that the club is not in very good shape financially, so I’d prefer to provide a nice transfer fee for the club at the right time. I don’t know yet how that will go on,” Kökcü told ESPN NL.
“There will be a new transfer period next summer and if it doesn’t happen then I’ll happily stay here for another year. Or however long it might be.”
Kökcü’s quotes are brought by Dutch outlet Soccer News, who point out that the player has been linked to a few Premier League sides, including Arsenal, with reports from England saying Mikel Arteta is ‘obsessed’ with him.
It’s still not said how much the midfielder could leave Feyenoord for. At the start of the week, former club player Ali Boussaboun claimed that in case he does join Arsenal, he could end up being worth between €50m and €60m at a later date.
Right now, Kökcü is valued by Transfermarkt at €14m.
