At the World Cup with the Senegal national team, Seny Dieng is unlikely to feature in the tournament unless they qualify from their group early or something happens to Edouard Mendy.
Still, it’s a nice experience for the Queens Park Rangers star, who is currently the number one at Loftus Road under Michael Beale.
The Championship side are currently seventh in the league, tied in points with Millwall, Swansea and Preston, which gives them a good chance of making the playoffs and maybe even more.
For that to happen, QPR will need to continue their early season form, and Dieng will need to continue to be a presence between the sticks for them.
Still, the 27-year-old has loftier ambitions that playing in the Championship, and sees himself playing at a higher level, whether it is with his current club or another.
Ahead of Senegal’s opener against the Netherlands on Monday, he spoke to 20 Minutes in Switzerland, the country he was born in.
Asked about promotion hopes with QPR, he said: “We have great harmony. In addition, the squad is well filled in every position and we have some key players who are currently having strong performances. If we stay fit, there’s a lot in it.”
As for his personal ambitions, he said: “I am currently signed to QPR, but it’s no secret: I want to play in the Premier League, whether that’s with QPR or with another team.”
