Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has shared his delight with his quick adaptation to life in the Premier League, but insists he knows he isn’t guaranteed playing time.
Onana arrived at Everton in a big money move from Lille in the summer, with the Blues moving quickly to secure his signature ahead of West Ham.
He’s been a huge hit at Goodison Park since, establishing himself in Frank Lampard’s team and earning rave reviews for his performances.
It’s been a big step up for the Belgian midfielder, who only managed 11 starts for Lille last season and is very much still a raw talent developing his game.
He hasn’t looked like that type of player in his short stint in England so far, though, instead showing a maturity and ability to dominate in midfield that belies his age and lack of experience.
“I think I have adapted well to the Premier League, I have taken my bearings game after game, gained confidence and maturity,” the Everton star told Pierre Deprez, relayed by RTBF.
“It’s a different league with a different intensity to what I’ve been used to.
“I have very high expectations of myself, I want to play every game, be in every competition, play as much as possible.
“I had no guarantee when I arrived, only superstars are guaranteed playing time. I had to work, show what I was worth in training, and it paid off.”
