On Monday, the Brazilian media reported that Fluminense youngster Matheus Martins could soon be on his way to Watford.
It was claimed by UOL that following negotiations between the Rio de Janeiro club and Udinese, the winger should soon be sent to the Hornets on a loan deal.
Another slant on this situation is featured by Netflu. The outlet doesn’t mention Watford, but does bring some details of the negotiation with Udinese.
It’s said Fluminense haven’t sealed the transfer yet, as they work to make a better deal. They’re trying to keep 10% of a future sale and are working to improve the add-ons so the total can reach €9m.
Matheus Martins’ desire to move to Europe was made clear after Flu’s match against Botafogo. The winger spoke to the local media after the game, and when quizzed about the recent rumours, he made it clear he’s keen on a transfer.
“They are speculating on this, but so far what I know is that negotiations are ongoing. When something is agreed, everyone will know. I don’t know (if it’s evolving). I want to play abroad, in Europe, I think it will happen at the right time. If it has to happen now, it will happen, if it happens later, no problem either. All in God’s timing,” he said (via R7).
For now, it isn’t clear how long Watford would keep the player, in case it’s really Udinese who buy him. Both clubs are owned by the Pozzo family, who should take the best decision.
