Odense Boldklub’s Yankuba Minteh has opened the door to joining Newcastle United in the summer.
Four days ago, Danish outlet Sport Fyn stated the 18-year-old is ‘very close’ to making a switch to England, where the Magpies are in the picture to sign him.
He scored in OB’s 2-2 draw against Lyngby BK on Monday. After the tie, Viaplay, relayed by Bold.dk, asked the winger about the claims linking him to Newcastle.
“You should probably take that with my agent. I don’t know anything about it,” he said.
Even though the Gambian isn’t aware of Newcastle’s rumoured interest, he has expressed his desire to seal a move to St James’ Park after this season.
“I am ready to take the next step, and it will only be good for me,” Minteh explained.
“Of course, I want to go to Newcastle. It’s a big club in the Premier League and they’re doing something good. They are fighting for a place in the Champions League.”
Minteh has over a year left on his deal. After publicly stating he wants a move away from the Danish club, a transfer is “not unthinkable” in the summer. That’s according to OB sporting director Björn Wesström.
The chief gave an update on the attacker’s future when responding to Sport Fyn’s claim about Newcastle wanting to sign him.
“I have been in dialogue with a number of top clubs, but we don’t know how it will end. There are always many rumours about a player who has the stats he has, and that is positive. We must have recruited him well,” he told TV3 Sport, relayed by Tipsbladet.
Minteh has managed five goals and seven assists from 17 matches this season for OB.
