Leandro Trossard has been regularly named as a target for Chelsea in the winter market, since Graham Potter left Brighton & Hove Albion and took charge at Stamford Bridge in September.
Trossard has impressed for Brighton this season, managing seven goals and three assists. This also includes a goal in his side’s 4-1 victory over Chelsea at The Amex.
The Belgium international’s contract expires next June, and the Seagulls have an option to further extend his deal by a year. On Thursday, he spoke to the Belgian media and stated the 2022 World Cup will not play a role in his transfer since “all the teams know” him.
Het Laatste Nieuws also interviewed Roberto De Zerbi’s star and specifically pressed him on the recent reports of Chelsea wanting to sign him January.
Responding to that, Trossard said: “Chelsea have in any case not yet reported. Not with Brighton and not with me. I have to wait and see. I want to finish strong at Brighton and leave for Qatar with that good feeling.”
Trossard arrived in England in 2019, after Potter took charge of the Premier League side. HLN asked him to share his views on the manager’s decision to leave Brighton for Chelsea at the start of this campaign.
“That was very strange, because I’ve always played under Potter at Brighton and have got better year after year,” the Belgian explained.
“You go through the full preparation and suddenly a new coach is there in September. Then you don’t know what to expect, but the reactions about De Zerbi were only positive. He really wants to play football and the way he wants to play suits me perfectly.”
