When the future of David Moyes was up in the air last season at West Ham United, Will Still was widely touted as potentially being the Scottish manager’s successor.
One of the reasons for that is the fact the Stade de Reims boss is a Hammers fanatic, and has never hidden his love for the London club.
However, would he manage West Ham in the future? That’s a question Sud Info in Belgium asked him about, and the answer might not be what you would expect.
The first part of the question was about the future of his career, seeing as he is still new to the game despite his great success.
He said: “Short term, I want to have a complete season with Reims and finish as high as possible. After that, that’s my problem. I’ve never had a career plan. I take what comes, but I admit that the small kid inside me wants to return to England. It’s home, it’s my league, the best in the world. I’ve always been a West Ham fan.”
That’s when the dreaded question came, as the outlet asked him whether managing West Ham would be the ‘absolute dream’.
Still replied: “I would think twice about it, but would I be able to do it? I would feel too guilty if I lost, but the Premier League and Europe, those are clearly two great goals.”
Therefore, it seems that being a West Ham fan and managing the club are two very different things for the manager, and perhaps they cannot coexist together, much to the potential detriment of the Hammers down the line.
Still, he said he would think about it…
