Queens Park Rangers are working to find a new manager after putting Martí Cifuentes on gardening leave, falling out with the Spaniard after he flirted with a move to West Bromwich Albion.
On Tuesday, Bold reported Randers FC manager Rasmus Bertelsen has emerged as a new target for the London club. They also stated QPR have a ‘strong interest’ in him, but he refused to confirm it.
Bold’s claim about QPR is relayed by Tipsbladet, who then provide their own take on this case.
The 41-year-old has been at the Danish club since 2009. He started as a head of academy coaching and was promoted to first team manager in March 2023. Bertelsen has been in charge of close to 100 matches for the senior team.
After Bold reported on QPR’s ‘great interest’ in the Dane, Tipsbladet contacted Randers football director Søren Pedersen for an update.
“I think it’s positive, but I also know, because I’m in close dialogue with Rasmus, that he’s happy to be here and we’re happy for him, he’s a big part of the very ambitious and exciting project we have going on. Our strategy is to continue that development, and Rasmus is definitely part of that,” he said.
The Danish club’s official says the interest from others isn’t converted into a concrete offer so far.
“I haven’t heard anything about it, so I don’t know anything about it. There hasn’t been anything on my desk in any case,” Pedersen explained.
According to Tipsbladet, the QPR managerial target has a contract until 2028, without any release clause. The Championship club have received encouragement after the director stateed they are ready to negotiate for Bertelsen if there’s a convincing and concrete offer.
“Just like our players, there’s a price to pay if you need to bring in our talented employees, and that also applies to a coach,” he added.
“If it happens [bid comes in], I see it as something positive. We have a long agreement with Rasmus and know that he’s happy at Randers. So, if something is to happen, it must be extraordinary.”
“If that happens, we’ll find a solution, there are other talented coaches out there.”
