Alex Telles picked up 26 appearances for Manchester United last season and if he’d have thought he’d get the same during the current campaign then maybe he’d have stayed with Erik ten Hag’s side.
However, the arrival of Tyrell Malacia made it clear that would be difficult and that either Telles or Luke Shaw would need to leave the club. The Brazilian was the man to go, joining Sevilla on loan until the end of the current season.
Telle’s plan will have been to get regular football so he can make it to the Brazil squad for the Qatar World Cup. So far in the current campaign, the 29-year-old, who turns 30 in December, has made seven appearances for the Spanish side, but only two of those have been for the full game.
Globo Esporte have spoken to Telles about his summer exit from Manchester United, and he explained his reasoning behind it: “I think it was a good strategy (going to Sevilla) when it comes to an important year for all of us athletes. I declare both the Premier League and La Liga as two of the great championships in the world.
“But I’m at a very big club too, Sevilla have a very good structure. I also had contact with the coach (Julen Lopetegui), who called me, and I thought it was a very good opportunity, I feel really good.”
The player will hope he can more regular starts in La Liga and the Champions League going forward.
