Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech has insisted he believes he’s one of the better players at the club and should be starting more regularly as a result.
The former Ajax man has featured more prominently for the Blues this season after a disappointing first campaign at Stamford Bridge following a £40m move from Ajax in the summer of 2020.
He arrived with a big reputation, having been the star of the show for the Dutch side for several years, both domestically and in the Champions League.
He failed to replicate that at Chelsea, though, struggling to establish himself under Frank Lampard and his successor Thomas Tuchel.
That has changed somewhat this season, with the Moroccan featuring more often under Tuchel this season and rewarding the German coach for his trust with several top performances.
He is nowhere near the first name on the teamsheet, though, and that is something the Chelsea forward thinks should be changed.
“Whenever I started to do well again, I got another setback, and I’ve had that a bit in the last year and a half,” De Telegraaf report him saying.
“I think I’m starting to enjoy myself more and more. And when I enjoy it, I’m at my best. Then everything goes naturally with me, actually.
“Whether I belong among the best 11 players at Chelsea? I think so.
“But the coach looks at what he needs per match. It’s normal that at a top club there is a lot of competition. I just have to show why I should play. In that respect, I’m on the right track.”
